Following a fundraising campaign lasting more than a decade, St Mary’s Church Room—Sole Street’s much-loved Victorian “Tin Tabernacle”—was completely refurbished during 2024 and early 2025. The work included a new environmentally friendly roof, insulated ecclesiastical-style windows, modern heating and electrical systems, level access and an accessible toilet. Its historic character was carefully preserved: the two original stained-glass windows were repaired and cleaned, while the old school bell was restored and retained. I has a fitted kitchen, fridge and microwave available. Now warmer, more comfortable and fully accessible, this remarkable 1889 building continues to provide Sole Street with a welcoming place for worship, clubs, classes, meetings and community events.
